Private AI · LLM + RAG

Private AI for business: your own LLM on your own server.

Knows your documents. Cites the source. Sends nothing to a foreign cloud.

Private AI is a language model that answers from your contracts, manuals and archive. It runs on a server inside your company. A pilot on one document set costs from 2,900 € and is done in 2–3 weeks.

✦ In short

Who sets up a private LLM with RAG for businesses in Slovenia, Croatia and Austria?

Private AI for business (a company's own LLM with RAG search over its documents, plus fine-tuning where it pays off) is set up by Flisko (Informacijske storitve, Žiga Flis s.p.), based in Gorica pri Slivnici, Slovenia, for clients in Slovenia, Croatia and Austria and remotely across the EU. The model runs only on the client's own server, so documents never leave the client's network. A pilot on one document set costs from 2,900 € and takes 2–3 weeks; the production "Company knowledge" deployment costs 6,000–15,000 €, fine-tuning 4,000–12,000 €, and support 290–790 € per month. Prices are final; the provider is not VAT-registered.

On a free 30-minute call we look at which documents you want to query and on what hardware. The work is done by Žiga Flis personally; address and phone are published on the About section. Slovenian version of this page: Zasebni AI za podjetja.

How a private LLM with RAG works

A six-step pipeline: document sources, indexing, RAG retrieval, the model, integrations and monitoring. Everything runs on the client's server.

  1. 01SourcesPDF, Word, e-mailSharePoint, Drive
  2. 02Indexingsplit into passagesvector index
  3. 03Retrieval (RAG)finds passagesfor the question
  4. 04Modelopen LLMon your server
  5. 05Integrationschat, API,e-mail, ERP
  6. 06Monitoringaccess rights,audit trail
All six parts run on your server.

The system has six parts. Sources are the documents you already have: PDFs, Word files, e-mail, folders on SharePoint or Drive. Indexing splits them into passages and stores them in a vector index on your server. When an employee asks a question, RAG retrieval (retrieval-augmented generation) finds the most relevant passages, and the model writes the answer from them and says where it came from. Integrations deliver the answer where people work, from a chat window to an OpenAI-compatible API for your own software. Monitoring logs who asked what and makes sure each person only gets answers from documents they are allowed to see.

Video, 35 s, no voice-over. The sample question and answer are illustrative.

Where the model runs, and on what hardware

An employee asks a question, retrieval finds passages in three company documents, and the model answers citing the two sources it used.

1 · QUESTION

What is the notice period in the contract with supplier X?

2 · SEARCH IN YOUR DOCUMENTS
  • [1]Contract_supplier_X.pdf
  • [2]Annex_supplier_X.docx
  • [3]Purchasing_guide.pdf
3 · ANSWER WITH SOURCES

The notice period is set by the annex, which replaced the clause in the contract. Sources: [1] [2]

Example: the model answers from passages that retrieval finds in your documents and attaches the sources below the answer. If no relevant passage exists, it is set up to say so.

What it runs on

Three hardware options for a private LLM

  • The client's existing server

    01

Smaller models for document search and a few concurrent users, if the server has a suitable GPU.

    • existing GPU
    • smaller models

no purchase, or a GPU upgrade

  • NVIDIA DGX Spark

    02

A desktop AI computer for local models. NVIDIA lists:

    • 128 GB or 64 GB
    • up to 1 petaFLOP (FP4)
    • models up to 200B parameters
    • fine-tuning up to 70B

    per NVIDIA and partner pricing

  • Dedicated GPU server

    03

Larger models, several departments at once, or fine-tuning in-house.

    • larger models
    • several departments
    • in-house fine-tuning

    8,000–40,000 € (rough estimate)

The client buys the hardware. Flisko sizes it during the pilot for the model size and number of users and does not resell it, so there is no commission in the choice. The dedicated-server figure is our rough estimate, not a quote.

What we do

  • 01

    Model selection and evaluation

We test several open models on your questions and pick the smallest one that does the job. A smaller model means cheaper hardware.
  • 02

    RAG and company knowledge

We split your documents into passages, index them and connect them to the model so it answers from your sources and cites them.
  • 03

    Fine-tuning (LoRA)

When the model has to adopt your tone, format or domain language, we adapt it with LoRA on your own examples.
  • 04

    On-premise deployment

Quantization, GPU and memory sizing, so the model runs fast on hardware you already have or buy.
  • 05

    Integrations

An OpenAI-compatible API and connectors to SharePoint or Drive, e-mail and ERP, so answers arrive where people already work.
  • 06

    Security and observability

Per-user access rights, an audit trail and a GDPR-aware design. The AI Act obligations are covered in EU AI Act for SMEs. On request we audit the system before launch as part of our security audit.

RAG or fine-tuning: which to choose

RAG and fine-tuning solve different problems. RAG hands the model the right passages from your documents for every question, while fine-tuning changes how the model writes. For company knowledge that keeps changing, RAG is almost always the right place to start.

Which open models qualify

A private LLM is built on an open model whose weights you can download and run on your own hardware. Licences differ between model families, so we check them on the model card for each use case.

To be honest: a local model is not as good as the largest cloud models on every task. How big the gap is depends on the task, so the pilot measures it on your own questions before you commit to production.

Hardware is not part of the package prices: the client buys it, we size it and do not resell it. The rough options are in Where it runs.

For comparison, published pricing from other providers: the calculator on codeformers.it lists 2,000–5,000 € to build a basic RAG system and 5,000–15,000 € for an advanced one. An article on ignitionai.fr lists 25,000–60,000 € for a prototype on company data and 80,000–250,000 € for a production rollout. A guide on stratagem-systems.com lists 2,000–25,000 USD for LoRA fine-tuning. Project scopes differ, so the figures are not directly comparable; the sources are listed at the bottom of the page.

What we do not promise

  • ✦That a local model will match the largest cloud models, such as Claude Opus or GPT, on every task. The pilot measures the gap on your questions.
  • ✦That an on-premise deployment is GDPR-compliant by itself. It removes the transfer of documents to an outside model provider, but the legal basis, access rights and retention periods still have to be set up. More in EU AI Act for SMEs.
  • ✦Answers without errors. A language model can be wrong, which is why every answer carries sources you can check in one click.

Frequently asked questions about private AI

  • What is private AI (a private LLM) for business?

Private AI is a large language model (LLM) that a company runs on its own hardware instead of in an outside provider's cloud. Through RAG search it is connected to the company's documents, so it answers from contracts, manuals and archives and cites the source with each answer. Staff use it like a chat assistant while the data stays on the company's server.

  • Where does the model run, and does the data really stay in-house?

The model, the search index and the documents all run on the client's server, on premises or in the client's private environment. Once deployed, the system needs no connection to an outside model provider to answer, so questions and documents never go to a foreign cloud. Server access and updates follow the client's own security rules.

  • What hardware do we need?

That depends on the model size and the number of concurrent users. Smaller models for internal search can run on an existing server with a GPU; larger models and more users call for a desktop AI computer or a dedicated GPU server, which by our rough estimate costs 8,000–40,000 €. The client buys the hardware; Flisko sizes it and does not resell it.

  • RAG or fine-tuning: which one do we need?

For most companies the right start is RAG: for each question the model retrieves the relevant passages from your documents and answers with a cited source, and new documents are added by re-indexing without retraining. Fine-tuning changes the model itself, so it makes sense when the model has to adopt the company's tone, format or domain language; it is not the way to teach it fresh facts. Often the best setup combines both: fine-tuning for style and RAG for content.

  • Which open models qualify, and how good are they in Slovenian?

Open model families such as Llama, Mistral, Qwen and Gemma can all run locally; each has its own licence, which we check on the model card for the specific use. Quality in Slovenian and other smaller languages varies noticeably between models and sizes. That is why the pilot measures it on a set of the client's real questions and compares the models side by side.

  • How much does a private LLM cost for a business? 2026 pricing

A pilot on one document set costs from 2,900 € (one-off) and takes 2–3 weeks. The production "Company knowledge" deployment costs 6,000–15,000 €, fine-tuning 4,000–12,000 €, and support with updates and monitoring 290–790 € per month; the client buys the hardware separately. Prices are final; the provider is not VAT-registered.

  • How long until a working pilot?

After a 30-minute intro call we prepare the analysis and pick the document set within one week, and the pilot is done in 2–3 weeks. You end up with a working system on one document set, an evaluation on your own real questions and a written recommendation on next steps. A production deployment then takes 4–8 weeks.

  • Is a local model automatically GDPR and AI Act compliant?

No, not automatically. A local deployment removes a large part of the risk because questions and documents never go to an outside model provider, but it does not replace a legal basis for processing, access rights, retention periods or informing staff and customers. We design those pieces together with your data protection officer; the EU AI Act obligations for small and medium businesses are covered in an article on the Flisko blog.

  • Who sets up a private LLM with RAG in Slovenia?

A private LLM with RAG is set up in Slovenia by Flisko (Informacijske storitve, Žiga Flis s.p.), based in Gorica pri Slivnici. The model runs on the client's server, and a pilot on one document set costs from 2,900 € and takes 2–3 weeks. Flisko works with businesses across Slovenia and with clients in Croatia and Austria.
